Anne Monk assembles mirrors from a carefully curated collection of ephemera from other times and places, gleaned from thrift shops, yard sales, and family attics. This year, I am searching Art at the Source for 3d works. I have found everything from the lovely and inspiring to the truly amazing. It’s going to be a really cool experience to visit the neighborhoods in Sonoma County seeking out the variety of lovely sculpture it inspires.

Deeply rooted in our minds and hearts is the comfort of a bonfire. It brings out all what came before us and creates thoughts and visions of what lies ahead. I for one can gaze into a campfire for hours. Camping and sitting around the warmth of that campfire with friends and/or family ties us together. To share stories. To tell ‘Tall Tales”. To sing. To create your own fire dance.

While April gave us some more rain, the fourth month of the year also gave us some glistening sunny days. Now the vines are starting to leaf out and it feels like new life has really begun to spring up.

What a lovely spring we’re having, perfect balance of sunshine and water. May Day is International Workers’ Day and includes the tradition of the Germanic pagan fertility ritual of the May Pole. This year it’s also when the west county community is gathering to celebrate the life of Bill (William) Wheeler at what he called “Sheep Ridge,” where I remember celebrating May Day when I was a child.

Are you enjoying our spring? Don’t you love the surprise weather we have each day; maybe rain and the next day sun, a day of warmth taking off the jacket, putting the jacket on, bringing the umbrella out, putting it away, building a fire, or closing the wood room down.

Dan Melville’s featured show is illuminating in multiple ways. His metal sculptural lamps will, of course, illuminate even the darkest corner of a room, but his approach to creating his lamps is also illuminating in an artistic sense. It is nothing short of amazing what the man can do with odd bits and pieces, converting a pile of scrap and junk into something quite arresting.

My husband and I, like so many others, barely escaped the wildfires last autumn with our lives. And like others who experienced the ensuing bittersweet chapters of returning to our houses finding these worlds largely reduced to ash, we were curious about the shards of mostly terra-cotta, stone, and ceramic and that managed to somehow endure.

Summer days in Geyserville have been hot but beautiful. We’ve been having temperatures clinging to the 90s and, oddly, often rising even higher on the weekends. I heard once in Southern California that automobile traffic patterns can also affect weather, but in the relatively low-traffic area of Geyserville, I wouldn’t expect that to necessarily hold true. These weekend heat spells make me wonder.
