In Preparation for the Weekend

This Fourth of July is not going to be the same. We won’t be gathering with friends for barbecues, and we won’t be at each other’s houses for fireworks. Yes, this is breaking long held traditions, and passing up some of our favorite summer memories. Instead, for your own health, and for the health of our community, we are asking that you stay home. If you do need to leave your home, wear your face mask, and stay 6 feet apart.

There are a lot of concerns about crowding over the forthcoming holiday weekend and the re-opening process.

It’s important to remember what health officials have been working to achieve with the flattening of the curve is to buy us time. Time to increase hospital beds and needed equipment, PPE for health care workers, testing and contact tracing, alternate care sites, and procedures for social distancing, sanitization, and masks – all of which have been resourced over the past three months. Sonoma County’s capacity to manage this health emergency is greatly increased.

PLEASE Respect the Health Orders - just as you wear your seat belt and stop at a stop sign - its the same safety concern.

At the same time, we are also dealing, on an ongoing basis, with the reality that cases are rising and too many people come in that do not respect the health orders. We will have enforcement agencies out all weekend but they have a lot of territory to cover and can’t be everywhere at one time. We encourage you to practice safe-celebrations this weekend. Stay close to home and away from crowds, maintain social distancing, wear masks and sanitize, sanitize, sanitize.

Please remember that fireworks are banned in unincorporated Sonoma County and don’t put your neighbors at risk during wildfire season.

FIREWORKS according to Area or cities:

Unincorporated Areas

All fireworks are illegal. During the Fourth of July celebration, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department will be strictly enforcing the ban on all fireworks, including sparklers, within the unincorporated areas of the county. The fines and penalties increase if you are found in possession of fireworks classified as dangerous.
