Ahhh… the end of another year, full of so much for each of us. This is a great season to look back and reflect on everything you’ve gained as well as what you’ve lost, all the memories made, relationships created or strengthened, experiences you hope to revisit and each moment you endured - appreciate resilience in its entirety.

Tis the season of light and life. Celebrate each glimmer of light and let the abundant gift of life surround you and yours.

Holiday Before & After Sale

Gloria “Glo” MolicaSpeaking of special people, I would like to recognize Gloria “Glo” Molica, a heartbeat of Bodega who passed on October 17 at age 67 from Alzheimer’s disease. Her presence will be greatly missed. On November 17, I had the privilege to come together with the community as we celebrated her life by sharing memories and reflecting on what a bright light she was.

Her laughter brought joyful smiles. Like her nickname suggests, she was always “Glo”wing. She had such a powerful and direct impact on so many. Nothing compared to her lovingly long and warm embrace. She had the “best hugs in the Universe,” was the popular vote - and “her heart was as big as her hugs.” She really cared for people with authentic enthusiasm. Not only would she hug you with her body and soul, but she could hug your heart with her passion-filled, freshly homemade food.

Glo was an amazing nurse, a genuinely loved and respected FNP by everyone who experienced her compassionate care. She also served as the Bodega Volunteer Fire Department’s Medical Captain for 18 years and then board president. She had countless talents and used her gifted intelligence to accomplish a great deal.

She was surrounded by a caring community who loved her more than words can describe. She lived at the Bodega Pastures for over 40 years with her dearly beloved husband, Laird Sutton. They were great parents, to more than just their own - welcoming, supportive and non-judgmental. They had a relationship to be admired.

As Laird says, at “the bottom of everything is love.” He shared that the Spirit is part of who we are, as “we live in a multi-dimensional world” and how grateful he is that “we are all part of a vast interconnected existence.” In Glo’s final hours, she actually hummed along with the Beatles tune “Here Comes the Sun” and as she transitioned, Laird saw a bright yellow light glowing around her head - she was free at last.

“Death is our dancing partner... and the dance is beautiful.”

My brother lost his mother the morning before Glo’s memorial, about five weeks before she would’ve had her first grandchild. Glo was even going to have a great-grandchild. My mother also would’ve loved to have met her grandchildren, yet here I am two years later, expecting a baby girl. Without death, there would be no life. Our existence is based on renewal and rebirth. I encourage us all to honor each transition with recognition and grace. Allow grief and embrace change, whatever it means to you
