KBBF commemorates and remembers the Mexican Revolution with an event on November 16th, from 5 to 10pm. Live music by two local groups, an educational presentation, and karaoke make up the entertainment. There will also be homemade birria for sale for dinner. Join in the festivities at 1700 Corby Ave, Santa Rosa. For more information, call 707-545-8833.
Community members are organizing to support the family and friends of Cristian Nuñez. Two years ago, in September, Bryan Daniel Webster stabbed and killed Nuñez in Petaluma. In July 2018, a judge found Webster guilty on several charges, including voluntary manslaughter.
Despite this finding, the Sonoma County D.A. Anne Masterson and Jill Ravitch offered a plea deal of involuntary manslaughter. This would reduce the sentence to six months served. After three years probation, the felony would be reduced to a misdemeanor. With Webster’s defense asking for home confinement, he might wind up never spending a day behind bars for killing Nuñez.
The Nuñez family is asking people to put the pressure on the D.A. by calling her at 707-565-2311. Remind her that her job is to ensure that justice prevails.
Supporters can join the Nuñez family in court at 600 Administration Drive, Santa Rosa, on 11/5/2019 at 1:30pm to hear the judge’s decision.
Learn the true history of California, significant roles played by California Indians, and impacts of colonization. Explore strategies for integrating native perspectives into education and civic discourse. This presentation on November 8th at 7pm is at Christ Church United Methodist, 1717 Yulupa, in Santa Rosa. California Indian Museum and Cultural Center Director Nicole Lim speaks at this benefit hosted by Sonoma Solidarity with Standing Rock. Suggested donation $10-$20, with all proceeds going to CIMCC.
DJs from Mas Firme Records kept the party jumping at KBBF’s sixth annual Trunk or Treat in October. Now’s the time to start planning next year’s spooky car theme so you can join in the fun.
