Legacy Fire Relief Program free counseling for post-fire stress, trauma, and PTSD

TheLomi Psychotherapy Clinic implemented ourLegacy Fire Relief Program in 2017, offeringfree counseling to community members who were in need of treatment as a result of the fires. This program continues as our fire problem has not ended. This program has provided over 1000 hours of care to people who could not afford the care they urgently needed.

With the Kincade Fire, we now have more people who need care from this traumatic event. Also, people with PTSD from prior events are seeking care as this fire, the loss of home and work, the evacuation, and power losses have triggered symptoms again.

The initial shock of the fires is devastating with the loss of people, pets, houses, businesses, and jobs. But as the initial shock diminishes, and the outpouring of support leaves, the reality of the devastation becomes very real. In this relief phase of disaster response, we help clients begin the process of getting back on their feet.

With the support of counseling, they can begin to grieve the losses they have experienced and reduce their symptoms of stress, trauma, and PTSD. They have a safe place to explore their symptoms and emotions with their therapist. They can learn to re-find a sense of safety and calm.

Recovery from trauma often requires support and professional care. The Lomi Psychotherapy Clinic continues to be a safe place for our community during this time as our community builds its capacity for resilience.

Calling our intake line will start the process of beginning therapy. Our number is: 707-579-0465, ext. 227.

The Lomi Psychotherapy Clinic is seeking increased funding for this program.

Tax-deductible donations can be sent to us by mail, or on-line with a credit card. Donations will directly serve people who have been affected by the fires, people who cannot otherwise afford the care they need. We appreciate support to help us help people find recovery, resilience, and healing.

Lomi Psychotherapy Clinic was founded in 1987. For 32 years the Clinic has shown a steadfast commitment to the mental, emotional, and social welfare of our County by providing accessible and affordable care to all who need it. In 2017, our nonprofit started the Legacy Fire Fund in response to the wildfires that ravaged Sonoma County. We provided care to those affected by the fires the day after the initial fire outbreak without knowing where the funding would come from. We raised money from private donations and County Foundations. We have provided a thousand hours of care to close to a hundred people who were affected by the fires. Here we are again in 2019...providing care to those affected by the Kincade Fires...wondering where the funding will come from. During the Kincade Fires, Sonoma County residents have been forced to cope with anxiety and stress of fire risks, the related mandatory evacuations and school closures, PG&E’s intentional power shutdowns and poor air quality, among others. For some, this triggered recurring feelings of dread and other physical and psychological effects. Making a donation to the Legacy Fire Fund would support people as they struggle with the grief of devastating loss and the trauma associated with fleeing from their homes. It also helps children and adults piece their lives back together after the fabric was torn so suddenly and unexpectedly. Thank you Sonoma County!! ~ Shannon Sweeney
