My name is Melanie Hall. I am honored and pleased to be collaborating with Brooke Greene to write the Cloverdale column for the Gazette. Thank you, Reece and Carol, for establishing such a solid column and sharing the spirit of Cloverdale with the rest of Sonoma County.

The most important thing is the health and wellbeing of our Cloverdale family” and we “look forward to a heavy dose of live music and community bonding.” Follow what CAA decides as the time draws closer, but for now FNL is cancelled.

Cloverdale Performing Arts Center faces the same issue.  All productions are postponed or are awaiting confirmation to make any changes until the end of July 2020. Events and major fundraisers are also on hold. When health orders loosen the interactions within a community, time will be needed to get the plays to the stage. Performers need to rehearse and sets need to be built. As we move closer to the end of June or into mid July, check out: Schools are out for the rest of the year. However, students as elsewhere are engaged in distance learning, finishing projects, and working to “complete” their studies for the year.

Cloverdale along with the rest of California is “sheltering-in-place” until at least May 3 and maybe beyond. Coronavirus, also known as COVID – 19, is here, meandering its way through the population, unfortunately, often unidentified. We would love to give statistics, but this is being written only days after the order to stay in place went out and not unlike elsewhere those statistics are changing hourly as testing increases and symptoms make their appearance telling us of its existence.

Talley’s Folly, by Lanford Wilson, now playing at Cloverdale Performing Arts Center, could be described as a romantic comedy. It’s romantic and it’s funny, but one hesitates to call this little gem a rom-com because of all the baggage movies of that ilk carry with them. This play is more subtle, refined, profound, and of course, no Meg Ryan.
