The MAC candidates’ town hall meeting in Guerneville went very well. There was a total of 28 people running for district positions. It was great to see such a turnout of people willing to volunteer and serve, and to serve for the greater good, not just for their individual district. It’s a sign of our changing demographics and it’s awesome that we have reached this place.

Most of you know that Suzi Schaffert, former co-owner with her husband Don, of Don’s Dogs and the Rio Theater, passed away last month from pancreatic cancer at the age of 63. A wake was held August 25th at the amphitheater.

Summer is winding down except of course for Lazy Bear Weekend the first weekend in August and Russian River Pride the last weekend in August. Traditions are important here in the River.

What if you were able to have a brand-new family practically overnight? What if you were able to have two sets of families? I have had the most incredible experience recently. I was adopted at birth in NYC and I’m 61 years old. A family friend told me when I was a teenager that all she knew was that a young teenager from a well-to-do family became pregnant and her name was Edith Costello. She had to give me up for adoption.

The Coast MAC and Lower Russian River MAC is established to advise the Board of Supervisors and other County decision makers on local planning and management decisions relating to their respective regions, to provide a regular forum for citizen participation in the formation of advisory recommendations on those decisions, and to provide a bridge for communication between the County and local residents and businesses, and the general public on local government decisions affecting these communities.

Things are moving along this fall in the river. A workshop on the new Monte Rio bridge was held 9/28. An Onsite Water Treatment System (OWTS) workshop was held 9/29. Also moving along is the Municipal Advisory Councils (MAC) formation. Plus Permit Sonoma has a new Administrative Citation Program that began in August supporting their goal of establishing a safe and healthy community.
