The February flood was huge. It certainly devastated our area. No one really anticipated it being as big as it was. We always hear of Mill St and the Armstrong Woods area flooding, but this one was certainly a shocker. What I find most interesting is that the County alerted residents in Guerneville to evacuate but did not alert residents of Rio Nido to evacuate. For some inexplicable reason we were not EVEN on the list. I wonder how this happened? BIG, BIG mistake. Rio Nido Lodge: The RN Lodge is still standing. However, it did take in quite a bit of water.

It's a big deal on The River. The Lower Russian River area has wanted a voice of influence at the Board of Supervisors and now, thanks to Fifth District Supervisor Lynd Hopkins, the first public meeting will be held February 25 at Guerneville Elementary School. The public is welcome and encouraged to be involved in making decisions about the present and future of the Lower River Communities which extend from Forestville to Cazadero/Duncans Mills.

This last storm we had in Rio Nido was a scary one. The lights went out and everything went completely black. It’s a good thing I was prepared as were many others in Rio Nido. The wind swept around the neighborhood like a hurricane. I’d like to make a comment on how some neighbors take pride in their properties. Rio Nido does not have street cleaning.Valentine’s Day (or Saint Valentine’s Day) is observed on February 14th each year. Today Valentine’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world, mostly in the West, although it remains a working day in all of them.

What has happened to society that they place so much emphasis on buying stuff? At the end of the day, it's just stuff. In my opinion, the very best way to spend the holidays is to give to those who need it most. Adopt a family in need/crisis. It truly is the meaning of the holiday season. It feels right to bring joy to those less fortunate. Make a difference in someone's life.Kindness goes a long way. Happy Holidays to one and all!
